Normal Range And Extended Range VLANs
Normal Range And Extended Range VLANs
As with most things with technology when we invent, or build something we sometimes don’t have a grasp on how these technologies will involve over time. You can say that VLANs, as the available range for them has expanded as networks got bigger and more complex. Reference the table below to see the VLAN ranges.
VLAN Range | IDs |
---|---|
Normal Range | 1-1001 |
Extended Range | 1006-4094 |
One thing to keep in mind is VTP version 1 and 2 don’t support extended VLANs. Only VTP version 3 supports extend VLANs. You may also notice that VLANs 1002-1005 are reserved for legacy technologies like token ring and FDDI. As well as beware depending on some Cisco devices like NX-OS has some of the higher VLAN IDs reserved.
